data systems for Varian

The time has come for my annual begging and upgrading the VXR-500's data
system is at the top of my list. I have in mind two paths:

(1) Ask for one computer for the spectrometer. Then I would go for a Sparc 10,
I think, getting as much horsepower as I could.

(2) Ask for two computers, one for the spectrometer just sufficient to collect
multi-dimensional data, the other for remote processing and molecular
mechanics, a high-horsepower unit.

Anybody give me ballpark $ estimate for the "barely sufficient" and the
loaded? I know the costs of the HAL and software. Thanks!
