Ata Shirazi at UC Santa Barbara is not on email, so I am forwarding
his request for help. He has a GN system which apparently has had
SMD interface problems in the past, i.e., SMDBUSTER has found thousands
of hard errors, and the problem was traced to a sync problem. Currently,
he had a error #240, indicating an error on the hard drive. He ran
SMDBUSTER with no problems, found no new hard errors, reloaded software,
ran GEM, and as soon as he typed ZG or LD got an error message (red error
line at the top of the GEM screen). Typing ER to clear the error line
gave "no error found" message. Knobs A and B are not functional, and
the spinner indicator at the top of the screen is showing S255.
He has reseated all computer boards, and reloaded software -
no help. I noted that the only time I ever saw a similar problem was
when I tried to run GEM software on a GESDS - the spin indicator showed
S255 and you couldn't transfer knob A and B function to the single
keyboard knob (as you can with a QE or when running the datastation
software GEN). I don't know the implication for Ata that this is showing
up on his spectrometer. I also didn't ask if he had been in touch with
Bruker about the problem.
So, if anyone has any ideas, please give Ata a call:
805-893-2938
or email me with responses and I will pass them on.
Thanks for any help,
