AMMRL: outside (industrial) rate survey SUMMARY

Dear All,

Sorry for the lateness of this summary. I received 24 responses which I think was a pretty low number and I was waiting until they all came in. There was a wide range of rates (data was not gaussian as it had long tails) to charge outside users and a variety of models - some charged a labor rate, some allowed self-service, while most simply charged a higher per hour rate for external, corporate users, and had facility staff acquire the data. Some had a field dependence. There were 4 cryoprobe rates reported and they were very different from RT rates. The most responses were of a fixed hourly rate with samples run by staff. Surprisingly, about 12 out of 24 allow outside corporate users to take their own data, although some sites limit this to former grad students.

The median results are:

Submitted rate (500-600 MHz) - $108/hr
Self-service operated rate - $ 72/hr
Cryoprobe rate - $160/hr
Labor rate (where applicable) - $108/hr

My original question is below:
1. Do you distinguish between outside users and inside users? If not, stop here.

2. Do you distinguish between corporate/industrial users and for outside academic labs (users from another academic institution)? if not, stop here.

3. For your corporate/industrial users, please state your charging rate or structure (per hour or per sample, field dependence, cryoprobe dependence, etc..)

4. Do you allow these outside users to operate the instruments or do you only allow sample submission?

John
