If you know of postdocs doing biomolecular NMR who are looking for faculty
positions, I would appreciate it if you would bring the following to their
attention. The University of Kansas Department of Molecular Biosciences
recently advertised a faculty opening for a physical biochemist (full
position description at
http://www.molecularbiosciences.ku.edu/positions/phys.html
The description reads in part: "We are interested in candidates with a
strong research program in biophysics/biochemistry that focuses on
important biological questions (e.g. intermolecular interactions:
protein-protein, protein-DNA, DNA-ligand, protein-ligand, protein-RNA)."
What the position announcement does not provide is the potentially useful
information that KU has contracted for a Bruker Avance 800 with a triple
resonance Cryoprobe, a triple resonance Chili probe for an existing Varian
Inova 600, and a dual carbon-favoring Cryoprobe for an existing Avance
500. At the same time, we are opening a new core lab for macromolecular
crystallography, and an analytical proteomics facility. The 800, the
X-ray instrument and crystallization lab, and an FT mass spec instrument
that is part of the proteomics facility will be housed in a new structural
biology laboratory building. The building will be completed in July of
next year. The university's total investment in building and
instrumentation for all three labs is about $7 million.
The position description provides details about how to apply.
The initial review of applications will begin on November 3. I am not
part of the search committee, but would be happy to discuss the NMR
instrumentation picture with potential candidates.
