Hi,
The green box is actually a „poor man‘s“ version of
a rectifier (a single diode plus a capacitor). Often times the capacitor
dies upon which the relay (no, it won’t work with AC…) can’t
engage properly and you cannot switch on the unit. Usually replacing the capacitor
fixes it (sometimes contacts can overheat as well, worthwhile checking).
