Robert,
Maybe you can help this fellow. The AMMRL is the NMR managers list
comprised of NMR spectroscopists mostly located in the US.
Thanks,
Carlos

Subject: NMR shift of Hydrogen gas
Dear all,
we are conducting a mechanistic study of a hydrboration reaction
involving BH3 and encounter
a singlet at 4.59 ppm (THF solution). This signal seems not related
to any carbon (HSQC or HMBC) or boron. As the first sep in our
reaction evolves dihydrogen gas we wonder whether it is reasonable to
consider dissolved dihydrogen as the source.
I was not able to find chemical shifts for dissolved hydrogen in
general NMR literature so far.
Does any of you have ever encountered dissolved hydrogen gas in an
NMR spectrum ?
I suggested to the student to run H2 gas through a THF solution and
run a proton spectrum to see whether we can reproduce the peaK, but
in the meantime if anybody can give me information on NMR of hydrogen
gas in solution I would greatly appreachiate it.
Thank you very much
Holger Foersterling
