Thanks for the replies about sweepers. Many of you expressed similar
frustrations. Many also mentioned that I should...

Check out Morris Instruments at:

http://www.netrover.com/~pmorris/sweeper.html

which I did and got the following price info from Paul Morris:

We build these units on order with an 8 week lead time. (Please let me
know if your need is more immediate.) Terms are net 30 days. Purchase
orders may be faxed to us at 613-523-4112.

Here are the prices in U.S. dollars, FOB Ottawa.

1. Model 405NV+ RF Sweeper: 1.3 to 405MHz $3,295.00 U.S.

2. Model 505NV+ RF Sweeper: 1.6 to 505MHz $3,795.00 U.S.

3. Model 610NV+ RF Sweeper: 2.0 to 610MHz $4,295.00 U.S.

4. Backlight for use in low light conditions $250.00 U.S.

<me again writing>
These things would be ideal for probe tuning but I would like to do other
things as well. Agilent (HP) makes some 1 GHz, 2 GHz, 3 GHz, and 4 GHz
sweepers. I need only the 1 GHz but we are negotiating an attractive price
on a 2 gig refurb.

Who knows? Maybe SIU will buy an 1800 MHz NMR spectrometer some day. ;-)

Oh, and thanks to Roger Kautz and Bob Santini (and one more, on computer at
home) for educating me about impedance.
