Hi,

You wrote that you are thinking of de-energizing a magnet due to budget constraints.
You should know and calculate though that while de-energizing takes only 1/2-1 day and
can be done relatively cheaply, a reinstallation is vastly more expensive both in terms
of work involved as well as consumables required. For that money you can keep feeding the
same magnet for a few years easily… A 600 magnet is considerably more expensive in
that regard - now assuming you don’t have a helium recovery system installed which
would alleviate the situation considerably.
While a 300 may only require around 200-300 liters of helium for the reinstallation, a 600
will require 2-3 times that, depending on the style and age of the magnet. On top of that
you are facing a minimum of two service visits, one 1-2 days (refurbishing O-rings, start
vacuum pumping) and another around a week (cooldown/energize/cryoshim). That’s not
cheap.
Usually it’s best and cheapest in the long run to keep them running…

Best regards
Bert

Hello.

Our shielded 500 Oxford was de-energized in San Diego, moved across the country and re-energized seamlessly by Dr Feng Qui of NMRqualytics. Everything went very well, the old magnet is now in use, and with new o-rings the Helium retention time is like new.

In my experience, 60 MHz or 80 MHz benchtop instruments are extremely useful for sparse, sensitive nuclei, like 31P or 19F, where the sensitivity penalty can be tolerated and second-order coupling does not matter.

Observing a 13C spectrum can be lengthy, and interpretation of 1H can be complex.

Subject: [AMMRL] Approximate cost estimation to bring down Bruker 300 or 600 MHz NMR temporarily

Hello NMR community,

Due to budget constrains, we are exploring the options of temporary shutdown of our Bruker 300 or 600 MHz nmr. Could you please share the contact information of vendors to get a price quote to De-energize Bruker 300 or 600 nmrs. What will be the typical cost to Decommission and Recommission after few years for these Magnets.

Is benchtop nmrs good enough for academic labs involving experiments with multi-nuclei(1H, 2H, 13C and 31P) and what are the practical drawbacks associated with benchtop nmrs. What is the cost for the benchtop nmr (80 MHz) and any maintenance costs associated with the benchtop.

Thank you.

Thank you. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
