Dear Ken,

Uranium is an alpha-emitter and you want to avoid ingestion of any kind.
Thus, you are fine, as long as your complex is in solution, as your solvent
is shielding basically all emitted radiation. Upon drying after breakage of
the tube for instance, there is a minimal risk of mobilizing the radionuclides
along the gas stream through your probe and you need to avoid inhalation. In
addition, spillage can cause the probe to be contaminated and you would need
to decontaminate accordingly.

In general, working with actinides up to the exemption limit is legal in most
labs. With higher dosages it is advisable to have precautions in place.

I would not expect to find additional shifts from U(VI) as uranyl is diamagnetic.
If you see a significant shift you most probably have a change in oxidation state.
