Dear Colleagues,

A colleague, Danny Durant, from a neighboring university, Mount Allison, is
having trouble with sample spinning (see below). Since it is a while that I
worked on Varian machines, I am not quite sure of the mounting anymore. Can
you please give him some tips by e-mailing directly to Danny Durant <
ddurant_at_mta.ca>? Thank you very much in advance.

Happy resonating

Ulli

Hi Ulli,

We are having spin and eject problems with our Varian MercuryPlus 200MHz
magnet. We suspect that the upper barrel needs a cleaning.

All of the air pressure readings seem fine and you can hear the eject
mechanism working but the sample tube will neither eject or spin. The tube
has been removed with a lasso that we created.

When trying to remove the upper barrel we were only able to lift it up about
eight inches and then it was impossible to move. We did not exert too much
force and risk damaging it. Is there something that we loosen or remove in
order to lift this upper barrel out of the magnet?

There are two vertical screws on a plate that the upper barrel passes
through but I can’t imagine that they would be what we need to use.

Can you help me with this problem?

Thank you.

Dan
