In a similar vein, I have twice received helium dewars where the stack in the
center had been cleaved off completely. These dewars and shipped by common
carrier to our local Linde branch. I'm not sure how this happens, but it
almost seems like the Dewars are raised in the bed of the truck high enough
that they are cleaved when going under a bridge/tunnel?? I would have though
these would be shipped in an enclosed freight container. I'm very curious
how it happens. Of course, the dewar is either empty or ice blocked upon arrival.
