Dear AMMRL,
We’re having a communication issue with our BVT3000 (ECL06) and our AV III
console (TopSpin 3.6.5). The connection is intermittently stable in TopSpin,
but any attempt to turn on the probe heater causes communication to fail
until we restart TopSpin and the BVT3000.
We have tried different probes, different RS232 cables, cleaning the contacts,
and different heater cables, but none of these fixed the issue. We swapped BVTs
with another unit and the system worked properly, so we’re fairly confident
the issue is in the BVT.
When we looked at the boards in the BVT there were no obvious problems. Upon
closer inspection we found two spots that raised questions for us (image attached):
1. There appears to be some damage along one of the traces. There is no
continuity at pins on each side of that damage. Could this be intentional
design and not damage?
2. A TCA785P chip appears to be damaged or degrading. The discolouration
on the bottom of the chip in the image is the concern. That area on the
chip is not smooth and feels like a small amount of material is missing.
Could either of these issues be the cause of our problem? Or any suggestions
on what else we should check?
Thank you,
Sameer
