NMR sample tube quality

Greetings,

Has anyone out there experienced actual damage to a probe caused by
low quality sample tubes?

Although the tube manufactures are probably trying to sell us better tubes than
we actually need for most purposes, we have one user who insists on using the
so-called thrift or throw-away tubes. Some of these tubes are as much as
60 microns under-size, and can be inconsistent in diameter from top to bottom.
Although I have clearly demonstrated that these tubes do not shim as well or as
consistently as better tubes, he insists that he has used them for years
(elsewhere) and that they have never damaged a spectrometer.

I will be away for the rest of the week, but if there are enough responses
I will post a summary next week.

Cheers
-Kirk
