Job description:

Director of the MIT Department of Chemistry Instrumentation Facility
(DCIF): The facility currently houses NMR, Mass Spec., EPR, and
peripheral instrumentation used routinely by faculty and students in
the Chemistry Department. The DCIF currently employs three staff
members who are involved in providing mass spectra as a service,
instrument maintenance and repair, teaching, and computer
maintenance. The Director will assume supervisory responsibility
for (i) the laboratory staff; (ii) instrument acquisition, including
proposal preparation, repair, and maintenance; (iii) teaching and
training of student operators; (iv) the implementation of current
instrumental research techniques in response to faculty needs; and
(v) the operating budget and staff development for the lab.
Application deadline is June 7, 2005. Salary range for this
position is $75-85K. Applications received by June 7, 2005 will be
given first consideration.

Required skills:

Experience in modern multidimensional NMR spectroscopy, with a PhD
in Chemistry desired. Strong computer administration skills also desired.
Ability to interact with students and faculty with diverse needs and interests
-- as well as keen sense of priorities -- needed.
