Hi all,
Just a little FYI for the Varian folks, and the archives. I heard
that you could throw a Lite-On LTD-163 DVD drive into a Sun Blade 100
for an easy upgrade (and even swap the faceplates if you're into
computer aesthetics) so I ordered one. I received a Lite-On XJ-HD166S
instead but it works just fine. A simple "boot -r" to reconfigure then
"boot cdrom" with the Solaris9 SPARC edition installation DVD in the
drive confirmed that it did indeed work and can be used as the boot
device. It's a nice $40 upgrade for anyone considering upgrading to
Solaris9. (I actually didn't upgrade yet, but I might soon on one
workstation as a test bed.) I can't confirm the LTD-163 as a boot
device but the chances are very good that it would work as well.
