Position announcemnt

Folks,

what follows is the "official" position announcement put out by our HR
people. Let me fill in the blanks. We got an NSF CCLI grant to bring NMR
to a number of community colleges in our area. We need someone to help get
the program rolling, i.e., train the CC instructors on how to use the NMR.
They have been away from the technique for as much as 20 years. Also help
coordinate the use of the instrument by everyone. And help me set up the
best way to run our "NMR Collaborative Training Partnership". It won't be
full time job. But we often (read- always) have need of adjunct
instructors, so this might be an ideal position for someone with some
graduate NMR experience who wants to get a taste of teaching at an
undergraduate institution. The teaching is not a requirement, but it would
definitely make the annual wage a sustainable one.

If you know of any post-docs or grad students who are done or almost done
(we'll take and ABD) who might be interested, please pass on the
announcement.
Any questions can be forwarded to me at this e-mail address.

Cheers,

Alex

official announcement follows:

NMR Trainer Coordinator Position Announcement

The Rider University Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry is the
recipient of an NSF CCLI grant to develop a program centered around a
cooperatively used 300 MHz NMR located at Rider. This program will utilize
the network and internet capabilities of the instrumentation to allow users
from several local two-year and four-year institutions access to data
obtained from samples they have prepared at their home institution and
submitted for analysis. With proper coordination, remote users will also
be able to run NMR experiments in real time. In addition we will be
developing web-based tutorial products on the use of this specific
instrument, how NMR works in general, and how to interpret a spectrum.
The NMR Trainer/Coordinator will be primarily responsible for assisting in
the training of all participating faculty members and for coordinating
transportation and usage of the instrument by all participants. It is
expected that the trainer/coordinator have a recent Masters or Ph. D.
degree in chemistry or related field. Our new system will be a Bruker
Avance system running off an SGI workstation. Specific experience using
this type of system is a plus, but not required. It is expected, however,
that the person taking this position has more than a passing experience in
NMR operations and maintenance. Given the need to travel and to
communicate with a number of remote users, the trainer/ coordinator is also
expected to have his or her own transportation and good communication
skills.
The NMR Trainer/Coordinator position is a two year (nine months each
academic year) part-time position. The start date is officially September
of 2000, however our program will not be fully underway until Spring
semester of 2001. It is expected that the job will begin no later than
November 2000. Since this is only a part time position, the person taking
this position should have ample time to supplement his or her income by
acting as an adjunct instructor in the Department during the summer and
academic year if he or she so desires. Adjunct appointments are subject to
availability, however we are rarely without need of adjunct appointments.
For information about the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry, please
visit our website: www.rider.edu/chemistry. Information about the NMR
program will be posted on the preliminary web page www.rider.edu/nmr. If
you have any questions please e-mail Dr. Alexander Grushow, the program
director, at grushow_at_rider.edu.

Send a letter of application, curriculum vitae, transcripts and three
letters of recommendation to Rosemary Molloy, Manager of Employment, Human
Resources, Rider University, 2083 Lawrenceville Rd., Lawrenceville, NJ
08648. Review of applications will begin on July 15, 2000, and continue
until the position is filled. Rider University is an equal
opportunity/affirmative action employer and genuinely seeks a diverse
applicant pool.
