A while back I asked about 500 usage policies in departments where 500
was the highest field. Here is the highly simplified results:
11 Universities have 100% of time scheduled. Time frame varies from 1
month to the same morning.
1 university has 1 hour/day walkon and the rest scheduled
a university with 2 500s has 1 for long term experiments -scheduled well
in advance, and 1 for short term- scheduled 2 days in advance
1 is mostly scheduled 1 day to 1 week in advance, with some walkon time
1 schedules longer experiments and then puts open times around that
1 varies- sometimes it is all scheduled, sometimes (when less busy) some
walkon time is available.
