Job Description:
OPERATIONS MANAGER, Chemistry-Instrumentation Facility (DCIF), to be responsible for the daily operations of the department’s Instrumentation Facility and maintaining DCIF’s physical laboratory space so it’s conducive to the safe, efficient conduct of research. Responsibilities include training and providing support to researchers and students using the DCIF’s 600 and 400 MHz Bruker Avance NMR spectrometers and other instrumentation; providing FT-IR training, Polarimeter training, Variable Temperature NMR training (Bruker), and other trainings; maintaining instrumentation, including performing regular and preventative maintenance, diagnosing and repairing component failures, and handling instrument resets; maintaining the computers used as instrument hosts and for offline data processing; assisting researchers and students in generating exportable plots of data sets for use in publications; generating monthly usage statements; working with vendor installation engineers on upgrading and installing instrumentation; maintaining adequate quantities of laboratory supplies and stock replacement parts for equipment and instrumentation; arranging maintenance of compressors and air dryers; maintaining uninterruptable power supply (UPS); coordinating helium ordering for cryomagnets and fills; managing compressed gas ordering for the NMR and mass spectrometer; handling calibration and shim file archiving for Bruker and Bruker login file archiving; archiving NMR data to DVD and critical computer system files from NMR host computers; handling poster printing and usage reporting for groups; maintaining and updating web page; and other duties as directed.
Job Requirements:
REQUIRED: B.S. in chemistry or related field (master's strongly preferred); ability to interact with faculty, students, and researchers with diverse needs and interests; good interpersonal and problem solving skills; ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment; and good judgment and discretion.
