Hi Karen Ann,
We had some close encounters with a recent remodeling project: a
contractor with a pacemaker was not informed about the magnetic field,
and did a close approach before reading the signs; and a large toolbox
on wheels I found parked straddling the 5 Gauss line (red line on
floor). Thankfully, we escaped serious problems.
Our wood enclosures went all the way around the magnets, with a
removable top and doors that would open. Top stayed on except for
fills. Doors were always open unless work crews were present to give
the magnet air circulation.. The magnet was not bagged (for fear of He
buildup). The picture below shows the one around our 600 (Oxford 2000
vintage shielded magnet).
Really sorry about your troubles. The only possible silver lining is
that this gives some great ammunition for the rest of us to show the
work crews.
