An opening is available for a Solid State Nuclear Magnetic Resonance
(SSNMR) Senior Scientist in the Materials Sciences Department,
Pharmaceutical Sciences division of Pfizer Global Research and
Development in Groton, CT.

The Materials Sciences SSNMR lab supports projects from Pfizer lines
globally, involving all areas of drug development. It is responsible
for the physical as well as chemical characterization of a broad
spectrum of pharmaceutical solids such as active pharmaceutical
ingredients (API), excipients and drug formulations via SSNMR. The lab
is part of the Materials Sciences discipline at Pfizer, which utilizes
state of the art characterization techniques to define and optimize API
and drug product attributes for development. It is equipped with
dedicated solids 500 MHz wide-bore spectrometer as well as standard 600
MHz NMR spectrometer with SSNMR accessories. Numerous additional
research and open access liquid NMR spectrometers are also available on
campus with fields as high as 700 MHz.

As a SSNMR Senior Scientist, you will:

(1) Be a key member of the Materials Sciences discipline and collaborate
with other Materials Sciences colleagues to define and implement
characterization strategies consistent with drug development timelines.

(2) Provide solid state physical and chemical characterization of
predominantly small molecules of pharmaceutical relevance and solve
scientific problems using multidimensional SSNMR.

 (3) Interact with and communicate the SSNMR results routinely to
project chemists at all Pfizer sites.

(4) Investigate and implement novel SSNMR experiments and technologies.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have Ph.D. degree in chemistry or
equivalent field with expertise in SSNMR of small molecules or a
B.S./M.S. degree with 6+ years of preferably SSNMR experience. In
addition, experience with physical and chemical characterization of
solid samples by spectroscopic/thermal techniques as well as experience
with molecular modeling is desirable. Strong communication skills,
ability to work in a team environment and a demonstrated ability to
carry out research independently are essential. Strong interest and
motivation to learn new technologies and concepts is expected.

This position provides the opportunity for a highly motivated individual
to contribute in a stimulating professional environment. Pfizer Global
Research and Development offers an excellent salary/benefits package
plus an attractive Connecticut shoreline location.
