The University of North Texas has extended the search for an NMR
Laboratory Manager. Please
contact Professor Ruthanne Thomas (rthomas_at_unt.edu) directly for further
information. The
adverstisement is below.

NMR Laboratory Manager – Search Extended

The University of North Texas seeks applications for an NMR
Laboratory Manager. The manager will
be responsible for the functioning of the university’s NMR facility,
operated and maintained by the
Department of Chemistry. In addition to supervision of a part-time
operator and coordination of day-to-day operation, the manager will
train students and faculty on the use of modern NMR experiments; assist
researchers with design, implementation, and interpretation of
experiments to support research
projects; implement new experiments; suggest hardware and software
upgrades; assist with the
development of justifications for new equipment; help select new
spectrometers; and supervise
installations and upgrades. Ph.D. or equivalent, with a minimum of 3-5
years of related experience with a range of NMR spectrometers and/or NMR
experiments, including some experience with solids NMR, is required.
Previous lab management experience is preferred. Excellent oral and
written communication skills and the ability to interact with a wide
range of students and faculty are required. Rank and salary are
commensurate with experience.

The department has funding for a new 500 MHz NMR spectrometer to be
installed later this year and
has plans for further expansion in the near future. These will
supplement existing 200 and 300 MHz
spectrometers. All will be housed in the new 105,000 square foot
Chemistry Building, which was completed in January 2006.

The upgrade of this and other instrumentation, the addition of
several senior technical staff
positions, the planned addition of multiple new full-time faculty
members over the next two years
(from the current 20 to an anticipated 24), and the expected increase in
the number of graduate students (now nearing 100) are all part of the
Chemistry Department’s effort to increase research capabilities. For
more information, see http://www.chem.unt.edu.

The University of North Texas currently has more than 32,000
students and over 7000 full time and
part time faculty and staff. The university is the fourth largest in the
state and has been named one of America’s 100 Best College Buys for nine
consecutive years. UNT is experiencing considerable enrollment and
facilities growth with significant expansion planned over the next few
years, particularly in the sciences and
engineering. UNT is in Denton, Texas, a city of approximately 100,000
in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, approximately 35 miles north of both
Dallas and Fort Worth and 25 miles from the DFW International Airport.

To apply for the position, formally identified as “Research
Scientist (Chemistry)”, position number
06-0295, please complete the application materials available on the UNT
