Re: CDE question - makeuser script and xlock

Hi all,
We appear to have the same problem Bill Stevens reported the other
week: users other than root can not successfully xlock the screen. I
have tried using xlock and '/usr/dt/bin/dtscreen -mode blank' in a
terminal window but it still didn't work. The system still works,
however, we would like to lock the screen when the autosampler is
running to avoid interference from any 'curious' users.
We also see a problem with the makeuser script which does not create
the NMR group field in the 'passwd' file correctly (Bill encounters the
same thing). On one machine, these problems appeared to coincide with
an upgraded to Vnmr6.1C. However, on another machine, the problems do
not coincide with any modifications to the software or computer and
appear to have happened 'out-of-blue'. I have been told that Varian
knows about the problem with the makeuser script and that it is a bug in
the Sun/Solaris software.

Have others experienced the window lock problem with vnmr? Any
suggestions?

Although the makeuser script may be a 'known bug', why would it show
its ugly head all by itself?

Thnaks in advance for any help/suggestions.
