bent helium tube, summary

Thanks to Bob Santini, Jane Strouse, Jerry Hirschinger, Rudi Nunlist, Walt
Niemczura, Steve Stanford, Ulrike Werner-Zwanziger, Joe Schwartz, Ed
Chainani, George Sukenik, and Jeff Walton for advice on my bent helium
transfer line.

We have a couple votes for sending it off to be fixed and one or two for
using it like it is. Most, however, said they'd straighten it but warned
that I might completely screw it up in the process. Jerry said he might be
able to lend me one if I screw mine up.

The bend is only about 15 degrees, but it takes place over about an inch. I
have unbent tubes that got bowed during "cowboy transfers" and my gut
feeling is that I can straighten this one.

However, I refilled an 89mm Oxford 7T and used only the usual 22L/90 days,
so the thing is working okay and I may just leave it alone. I got a small
bit (0.5 cm) of ice at the bend mark, so the touch is quite small.

If I break it, I have used Cryofab in Kenilworth, NJ and have been
satisfied with their service and price. There may also be a place in
Danville, IL, but I haven't found them yet.

Thanks again to my respondents!

Bill
