Valerie--
I don't know what systems you have, but we have had good luck with some new
LCD monitors for our Bruker systems which are SGI based(Indy and O2). I had
posed a similar question to the group and got back the green light for SGI,
Viewsonic, NEC, and any LCD monitor. I have tested the O2 with the SGI 1600
Flat Panel Monitor and adapter card, and its works great; color and
resolution are super. I tried a Viewsonic VP181 on our Indy; the results
were really bad. There was significant curvature at the top and jitter on
the whole screen. We tried different settings and cables, but no good
results. The monitor worked fine on a PC. I convinced our IT to buy
another monitor, this time it was a NEC 1810X; this worked perfectly on the
Indy. I would definitely recommend the NEC. Good luck.

> Subject: magnets and monitors,
Hello all,
I have two questions:
We're preparing for the delivery of some new equipment and several issues
have come up.
First - we'd like to put LCD flat-panel monitors on the spectrometers. Any
recommendations?
Second - we're trying to come up with a realistic budget for LN2 and LHe.
The new magnets quote specifications for LN2 hold times greater than 21
days (230 l) for the 500 wide bore and 17 days (163 l) for the 600 narrow
bore. I'm interested to know how many of you are routinely filling these
magnets only every other week - I've been filling weekly for so long it's
hard to imagine.
As for helium, I'm getting pressured to take the magnets to 20 %. The 600
spec is 130 days, refill volume 125 l, total volume 159 l. I am extremely
reluctant to take the magnets this low - I'd really appreciate some input
on this.
Thanks
Cheers
Valerie
