I found the problem was that apparently you can't choose to install the
software in a location other than /opt (or there's some additional step
which I don't know about). On my newer NEO system, I have put Topspin 4
in /home, which by default partitioning has much more space in it than /opt,
no problem. However, for 3.x, this reproducibly throws the errors I noted
earlier, but the default /opt installation path works immediately.
