Hello Mike,

Congratulations on getting the console upgrade.

To enable "spooler", type "set" in the command line.
This opens the "set preferences" window.  Near the top you will see
"Enable automatic command spooling"
Make sure that option is checked.  Then click Apply at the bottom of the
window.
And so you should now have command spooling enabled.
PLEASE NOTE:  This is a user specific change.  If you have a multi user
environment, then this needs to be enabled for each user.

I haven't had any issues viewing old NMR data using the latest release
of TopSpin (even old DRX data recorded with XwinNMR).
However, if you want to acquire new data using exactly the same
parameters used to acquire an old dataset, then that won't work. I think
you will need to recreate the experiments to work with the new
hardware.  It's not exactly from scratch since you know what should
work.  But I think it's going to take some time.  On the positive side,
it will give you a chance to really take the new hardware out for a
spin.  And I think you will probably be able to create improved versions
of the old experiments.

You mention that you are running TopSpin 4.2
If that is the case, then before you invest any time with this, I
recommend upgrading to a newer version ASAP.  To quote one of my
colleagues: "TopSpin 4.2 is the devil, and should never be used to drive
an NMR spectrometer!"  The latest release is TopSpin v4.5. Though I
haven't yet installed that on any of our spectrometers, I am quite
certain it is better than v4.2.

Good luck,
Bob.
