The Department of Chemistry, University of British Columbia in Vancouver
is seeking a technician to support operations of its very active Nuclear
Magnetic Resonance (NMR) facility. The NMR facility serves more than 35
active research groups on campus and includes eight Bruker NMR
instruments with fields between 300 and 600 MHz, a Bruker Electron
Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) spectrometer, and five sample changers.
The facility conducts a wide range of modern NMR experiments on both
solids and liquids for applications ranging from quick assays of
reaction products to detailed structure elucidation of natural products.
As the NMR technician, you must hold at least an B.Sc. degree in
chemistry or a related field with at least three years of relevant
laboratory experience including one year of experience in either one or
both high resolution solution or solid state NMR spectroscopy. You must
be enthusiastic, highly motivated to learn, and work well both
independently and in teams. Extensive computer experience is highly
desirable. As you will be interacting daily with students and faculty,
you will have excellent interpersonal skills.
Reporting to the NMR facility Director, you will collect routine NMR
data as a service, assist students and answer questions, train new
users, help with equipment maintenance, keep accurate time and usage
records, and assist the NMR facility Director in the general operation
of the facility.
The position is initially for two years and may be renewed. The
anticipated starting date of the position is Aug 1, 2022. Informal
