About the Job

Summary of Position:
The Minnesota NMR Center is seeking an NMR Spectroscopist to join the MNMR
staff. MNMR houses eight high-field NMR spectrometers and provides support
for five other NMR spectrometers on campus. Please see nmr.umn.edu for
more information on the facility. The NMR Spectroscopist will be
responsible for maintenance and operation of spectrometers for solution
NMR, acquiring and interpreting multidimensional NMR spectra, implementing
new experimental techniques, and providing technical training and guidance
to University researchers.

Duties:
50% - Maintenance and Operation of Spectrometers:
Routine and non-routine maintenance of instruments in the Minnesota NMR
Center. Includes cryogen fills, instrument performance verification,
software upgrades, troubleshooting and repair, interfacing with vendors for
tech support, parts orders, scheduling service.

40% - MNMR User Support:
Train researchers to use NMR instruments. Participate on team of
instructors for Practical NMR Workshops. One-on-one training of users as
needed. Provide ongoing assistance with experiment setup and
troubleshooting. Service analysis and consultation.

10% - Day-to-Day Operations:
Assist, as needed, with tasks necessary to keeping the NMR center running,
including documentation, housekeeping, facility tours, etc.

The department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biophysics is
committed to understanding the molecular mechanisms of metabolic diseases
and cancer; developing novel strategies in biocatalysis and biotechnology;
and advancing knowledge through structural biology and molecular
