AMMRL: SUMMARY - TopSpin data imports

Hi all:

Many thanks to John Harwood, Dave Scott, Pat Stone Wilkinson, Roberto
Gil, Josh Kurutz, Brian Cherry, Markus Heller, Paul Cope, Clemens
Anklin, Kelly Moran, Rich Shoemaker, and Jerry Hu for responding
quickly, and essentially in complete agreement.

Summarizing those responses:

TopSpin imports Varian data without any serious problems. A wide range
of users are doing this on a regular basis.

MC2 may need to be adjusted for certain types of 2D datasets (to match
the acquisition mode for the indirect dimension). I didn't ask for
details, but clearly the proper settings can be documented for those
sequences that need adjusting. Perhaps the software can be configured
to automatically identify these datasets and provide the correct
settings? In any event, none of the respondents stated that this issue
was a serious problem.

Varian arrayed datasets--e.g., kinetics data--will import into TopSpin
as a 2D dataset. Processing then would be identical to processing
Bruker-acquired kinetics 2D data sets.

Often mentioned was Bruker's recent announcement of $99 pricing for a
student edition of TopSpin (which initiated the interest here).

Cheers,
Charlie
