Summary: Cold probe swaps

Four people with cold probes don't routinely swap them,
one has removed it 3-4 times in the last six months.
The probe needs to be warmed up every few months (~4-6), so you
could swap at that time.

The good stuff:

We can remove our chiliprobe and replace it with our HCN
probe in about 30 mins. after the recommended 48 hrs warm up.

Routinely, no. We have removed Bruker's cryoprobe for service a few
times but it's enough of a pain (not to mention easy to damage) that
I would not recommend that it be done routinely.

We only have removed it when it broke,,, I do not recommend
planning on being able to remove it routinely. Allow 4-6 hours to warm it
up and a hour to physically remove the probe. Note it weighs about 40
pounds so you need an assistant. Then you need to rewire the preamplifier
for the non-cryoprobe and reset the electronics.

There are a finite number of warm-ups that the cryoprobes can handle,
Overall, you could probably do it, but I would schedule it for at least
one month between changes.

If you are experienced, you need about 2 hours to insert/remove
a cryo probe (Bruker version). There must be 2 persons.

they recommend strongly against having an instrument where swapping a
cryoprobe would be part of the "setup".

I just got the quote for extending our warranty with a service contract
and about fell out of my chair.
