I believe that there is a large difference as the field are oriented
vertically (NMR) or horizontally (MRI). Different parts of my office desk
is exposed to 1.7 Gauss or 1.1 Gauss. Not so much a problem for me as for
my computers. My powerbook plainly refuses to start up above 1 Gauss
after upgrading disk from 2 Gbyte to 13 Gbyte.
