I want to thank all who responded - there are a number of HPPR preamps
out there still and it is good to know that we might be able to get one
if we need it, which we don’t now. Fortunately the instrument
should be replaced in about 6 months, which will take care of the issue
permanently.
It also appears that having the "user box" light come on
when X nuclei are observed is pretty common for this vintage of
instrument. There are some jumpers in the HPPR cage that can be used to
configure that if desired.
Thanks as always to all who responded!
