Dear AMMRL'ers,
The American Chemical Society is trying to help our community out with helium supply and price issues. There are legislative actions that are being considered, and getting some of your stories about insecurity around price and supply is critically important. The policy arms of ACS (and American Physical Society, APS) are working on interactions with members of Congress to help generate some awareness of what the upcoming 2021 shutdown of the Strategic Helium Reserve might mean for us.

Here is the direct request:
As we're working on the helium issue with allies on the Hill, it would be helpful if we could highlight institutions that are in relevant members' districts. I was hoping you could see if there are any AMMRL members we could highlight that are at least in the state, if not the district proper. I'll double check to see if they match up with a member's district then. If possible, it would be helpful if we can share their location and a bit of what they're experiencing.

If you are in one of those states ... and even if you simply want to share your stories about helium difficulties, please reach out to our colleague (and friend to the NMR community!):

Thanks to all of you for being such a wonderful group! Looking forward to seeing you at ENC.
Save the date ... Dr. Hartwig from ACS and Dr. Elsesser from APS (our allies in the struggle to secure helium) are hoping to come to Baltimore to give us an updated about what's going on in D.C. related to helium on Wed. evening. Stay tuned...
Sophia
