AMMRL: don't let this happen to you

Perhaps I should feel ashamed and be quiet about this, but, while I am sad
that things have turned out this way, I am not ashamed.

I gave as valiantly as I could. When my neurosurgeon said "six months off
work," I pleaded that I could not be away that much, so he reluctantly
agreed to "2 or 3 half-days per week at most" and that I should return home
from work immediately upon experiencing pain or fatigue.

This was not enough for SIU faculty and administration and they began to
vilify me for my inadequate effort. Read the rest. You will note that I
knew the newspaper guy through correspondence that lasted for years.
