Colleagues,
Lately we have clean installed all our spectrometer systems (a few
Mercury VRXs and UNITYs) with Solars 8 and Vnmr 6.1C. Solaris OS has
been patched with the Sun recommended latest in last November, and it
runs on 32 bits. On top of that, we also installed latest TCP-wrapper
and openSSH before Vnmr 6.1C was loaded. Everything else works great
except that the Vnmr plotting jobs get jammed fairly frequently (see
message below) on all our systems.
>ps -ef |grep lp
root 184 1 0 Feb 16 ? 0:02 /usr/lib/lpsched
lzhao 12403 12402 0 11:29:01 ? 0:00 /usr/spool/lp/bin/lp.cat 0
root 12384 184 0 11:28:59 ? 0:00 /usr/lib/lpsched
xia 15166 15156 0 10:05:34 pts/4 0:00 grep lp
lzhao 12387 12386 0 11:29:00 ? 0:00 /bin/sh -c
/etc/lp/interfaces/nmrplotter nmrplotter-158 lzhao_at_m200 "158-1" 1 "
lzhao 12401 12387 0 11:29:01 ? 0:00
/usr/spool/lp/bin/lp.tell nmrplotter
lzhao 12386 12384 0 11:29:00 ? 0:00 /bin/sh -c
/etc/lp/interfaces/nmrplotter nmrplotter-158 lzhao_at_m200 "158-1" 1 "
lzhao 12402 12401 0 11:29:01 ? 0:00 /bin/sh -c
/etc/lp/interfaces/nmrplotter nmrplotter-158 lzhao_at_m200 "158-1" 1 "
The plotting can be resumed by simply removing the lp.cat process.
We tried both "adddevices" and "makeprinter" to install
printers/plotters, the intermittent printing problems did not seem to
care.
I am running out ideas to trouble shoot this, any one could offer a hint
to where it is caused?
Paul.
