proton NMR of a steroid--question

We have been looking at the proton NMR of several steroids and noticed the
upfield shift of the protons in the A ring upon substitution at the 11
position with an ester. This is supposed to be a classic example of some
ring current effect, pi cloud shielding. Does anyone have an original
reference where this is discussed? Any leads would be helpful.

Thanks.
