Our 300 and 500 magnet are about more than 12 years old.The former
person refill LHe every 6 weeks and LN2 twice a week. He was very
causious about this.
The specs:
500:
LHe > 66 days
LN2 > 14 days
300:
LHe > 100 days
LN2 > 7 days
All the evaporation rate are within the specs now. 300 magnet will have
35% LN2, 6 inchs in height after 7 days. I plan to refill LHe every 8
weeks and refill LN2 once a week. It will save cryogen and less tank
traffic in NMR room too.
The former person is very causious about filling LN2 twice a week and
filling LHe every 6 weeks. He said that for old magnets you must do it
in that way.
I would like to hear the opinions from other labs with old magnets. I
will keep the comments confidential.
Another question is about GN500 computer. I believe that we have a Sun
360 computer in our GN500. Is there any lab use newer computer in GN500.
Is it come with the instrument or upgraded later?
