SORRY for any duplication!! My server "burped" just as I was forwarding this
through. I wasn't sure of the status, so I'm just re-sending it.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Thanks to the many comments about my memories of you AMMRL started. As I
suspected, I was inaccurate about some details, especially about how quickly
we grew in numbers. Thanks to Rudi Nunlist, I have more accurate
information!

* As of May 1994, the AMRL list had about 220 names. At that point we
started to define some criteria for eligibility.
* As of August 1 97, the AMRL list had 351 names. That was the last updated
list before bloch.cchem decayed.
* In March 95, Ben Bangerter put up the first Web page. The URL was unveiled
at the ENC in April 95.
* Vera Mainz set up a Gopher server with (the first) AMMRL Email archives
(at UIUC) very early -on. I guess Gopher has fallen by the wayside 8-)

* Bill Stevens sent the very first email to the AMMRL community. The second
one was Rudi's annoucement of the list ...Here's the actual, second AMMRL
message ever...from Rudi's archives:

As you probably have by now found out, the mailing list is in operation.
I made a list from the ENC forms which Vera Mainz typed into a data base.
(Thanks for all the work, Vera!).
I ment to delay the official start-up until I did some testing. However,
the system was armed, thus all of you received Bill Stevens' note of earlier
today... I suppose this now makes it official.
Here is how it works:
* Mail sent to 'ammrl_at_bloch.cchcem.berkeley.edu' will be sent out to all the
addresses on a list kept on bloch. (The sender usually also receives a
copy.) Anything mailed is distributed as is, no editing etc.
* If you reply to mail you receive, the reply also is sent to everyone.
* Use this account whichever way it serves you best, ask questions, raise
issues, bring forth suggestion etc.
* Request for additions to the list, or deletions, can be sent to
* 'requests_at_bloch.cchcem.berkeley.edu'. Please specify ammrl.

A note to Bruker users: There is a Bruker Users Mailing list on bloch as
well. To be included, mail to requests (see above), specify Bruker Users.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions,
Regards, Rudi Nunlist
