NMR/Spectroscopy Lab Manager
The Materials Research Science and Engineering Center of the University of
California, Santa Barbara is offering a staff research position in our NMR
Spectroscopy Laboratory. Responsibilities will include the organization
and supervision of a laboratory facility with capabilities that include
high-resolution 500-MHz and 200-MHz Bruker NMR spectrometers (configured
for liquids and solids) and Nicolet FTIR and Laser Raman instruments;
adherence to laboratory Health and Safety policies and procedures;
software development and implementation; and instrument training for
undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral research staff.
Minimum requirements: Ph.D. in physics, chemistry, chemical engineering or
materials science or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in hands-on operation and maintenance of NMR spectrometers,
specifically Chemagnetics or Bruker machines. Strong background in
electronics, mechanical skills and computer programming, UNIX preferred.
Knowledge of a broad range of scientific and technological programs, which
include structure determination of novel new molecular sieves, phase
behavior characterization of biomolecular materials and complex fluids,
and structural and dynamical studies of polymers and inorganic glasses.
The candidate will also be encouraged to participate in the
interdisciplinary research projects of our Materials Research Science and
Engineering Center (http://mrl.ucsb.edu). Salary: $45,200-$56,500/yr
