[AMMRL] Helium Recovery Pipe Sizing

Hello - I have written previously about the fact that we are designing and
connecting three 4K magnets to a helium capture and HP storage system here
at Dalhousie.  One of the considerations is of course pipe header diameter
and i have spoken with a number of people and have heard warnings about narrow
pipes and resulting pressure drop, back pressure, inefficient fills, etc.

In my particular situation, I will require a ~70 foot long header with no
significant elevation change.  Because I don't understand how to assess
pressure drop in a pipe of a given ID as well as what is a tolerable pressure
drop from the point of view of the magnet, I  have simply been erring
on the side of caution.  I started thinking Id use 2" but a number of
folks stated that was excessive and so I moved to 1.5".  It has also
been suggested to me that 1" should be fine.

So, my question to the group is how can I confidently remove the word "should"
from the previous sentence and replace it with "will"?  The try it and
see approach just does not sit comfortably with me. My understanding is this
is only an issue to think about during a fill - so fyi historically with
these magnets I estimate a exhaust flow of 9 SCFM.
