Hi Ulli,
The absorbers are mainly dealing with helium kind gases. Any other gases like
air will be turn to solid and stuck on helium can when they leaked inside
vacuum space. It only when solid accumulate enough to touch each others and
vacuum will go to bad. That is why the consequences of bad vacuum can only
show up for small leaks after a few years. Therefore, turbo pump it is a
temporary solution. It may only improve it a little bit.
If it isn't affect magnet performance and you have helium recycle system. Let
it be as long as you can. Then rebuild the magnet when time comes.

Feng

Dear Ulli
it is also possible that the absorbers that are installed in the vacuum chamber
of all magnets are saturated. These absorbers can deal with small amounts of
some gases that might be present in magnets. But eventually they saturate and
can no longer do their job.
The situation can be improved by pumping with a turbo pump for at least 24
hours. This will not regenerate these absorbers but it will buy you at least
6 month of time to plan and schedule a rebuild of the magnet. The magnet
needs to be warmed up and opened. At this point you should replace the O-rings.

Clemens
