Thank you for this thread, as I am also contending with an aging BACS120
and sundy. I recently had to replace one of the five fingers as it was
getting 'weak' i.e. it won't grab onto the tube and the tube will be skewed
from its axial position. When the vertical arm came down the tube will
descend quite off center from the magnet and this led to tube breakage a
few times.
In my case, it turned out that the faulty finger had a broken dowel pin
and so it was not moving the full range. Also, there is a rubber/polymer
lining on the top of the finger that provides a bit of tactile touch so
that the steel finger doesn't crush the tube. Due to wear and tear, this
lining had completely gone in my case.
I am glad to hear about your ending and also good to know that the spring
that controls the motion of all the five pinchers/fingers can break too.
