Dear all,
I got a lot of replies and they are very useful. Thank you all!
Here is the summery:
*1. Zymark potentiometer for SMS Autosampler: *
*1)*The potentiometers are manufactured by Bourns but they are *0.5%*
tolerance.(*special order*) Varian person said the 1% tolerance is not good
enough for the SMS to work properly. I think I have to wait those back
ordered parts from Perkin Elmer Life.
*2)* If the Zymark arm is shaky, check the tension on the cables; they
loosen over time.
*3)* These people have used Zymark equipment for sale:

*2. Calibration of SMS Autosampler needs MS-DOS: *
*1)* You can buy old laptops in ebay
*2)* You can calibrate your SMS with a modern laptop as long as it has a
RS232 connector. You need to prepare a DOS bootable USB pen, with all the
SMS configuration and software files already copied on it. (Check this link
http://rufus.akeo.ie/) Rufus is a USB DOS bootable system for USB
pen. Once
Rufus is installed on your USB stick, just copy (on a benchtop computer
that has a floppy drive) the content of SMS system 5 onto the USB key. Connect
your laptop to the system 5, force your laptop to boot from USB, then you
should be ready to start calibrate your robot.
*3)* You will learn how to make a RS232 9 pin cable from the 25 pins cable
