I consulted with my computer expert and it is his opinion that the problem
is in the transfer software and not the hardware. Some timing loop is
moving faster than before because of the new CPU speed and time outs are
occurring before the card has a chance to react. The card is pluggged
into an ISA bus on the 486 and the ISA bus on the pentium motherboard
must be running at the same speed as the 486. Try setting the CPU speed
of your pentium motherboard to a slower value and see if this fixes the
problem. Another possible way around this would be to network the old 486
with the new pentium (cost $50 for each network card) and then you can use
your pentium for processing and the 486 for transfers.

Subject: Failure of "Getfile" vs 93/NMRLINK 92 on a pentium-based PC
Mime-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"
Dear Colleagues,
For a couple of years I have been using WIN-NMR vs 9600901 to process data
from an Aspect 3000 using NMRLINK vs 92.02.01 & Getfile vs 930405.01 to
import the FIDs to a 486-based PC. Recently I purchased a pentium-based PC
and loaded all these programs on it - I did remember to transfer the NMRLINK
card as well! On attempting to "get" an FID from the Aspect 3000 I promptly
got the error message "Return Code Error" and of course there was no
transfer of data at all. Enquiry at Bruker elicited the following
information/advice:
The NMRLink card used hitherto is too slow for the pentium bus speed and that
a new NMRLINK card should be purchased - $ 500 ! Any help in this regard
would be greatly appreciated. I simply cannot scrape together this money at
the present jucture.
