I am sending out a brief overview of the results from my
LC-NMR survey. Sorry to annoy the whole AMMRL list but
I lost my original short list of people who were specifically
interested in the responses to my survey. If you would like
a the more detailed response please let me know. Below
the LC-NMR section I posted another question about
magnet placement and 5 gauss lines.
Ten companies replied that they had LC-NMR capabilities.
Nine out of the 10 companies major business is pharmaceuticals.
There was about a 50:50 break as to 500 versus 600. The
LC-NMR systems were mostly used for metabolite identification
but some were getting involved in combinatorial applications.
Four of the companies, which originally purchased a 500,
were buying an additional system, and 3 out of 4 were now
buying a 600. One company (which has a 500) said in retrospective,
they wished they would have gotten a 600 instead.
Two questions?
Magnet placement and 5 gauss lines?
We would like to place another NMR system in a room where
we presently have a 500 and 600. However, there is not
enough room (this is evenwith purchasing a shielded magnet)
and the 5 gauss lines would have to cross between
two systems. While I have always been lucky to have enough
room, I was wondering if anyone else has placed their systems
where the 5 gauss lines cross and what problems did they have.
(Hopefully the problems were just re-shimming(rt's only) the other system.
2nd question: Shielded magnets
Does anyone have any experience with the new shielded magnet systems?
Any problems relative to the non-shielded magnets etc.
Thanks,
Brian Tobias
