I can't offer any advice to the original question, but I'll throw in some
information that can hopefully benefit others here. As many have pointed
out in this thread, its really helpful to monitor the magnets and have long
term data to compare. Alongside our helium recovery system, I
installed some sensors (with custom electronics) to monitor everything about
our magnets and environment, and the data has been incredibly useful for
troubleshooting various events in our operations. It was a LOT of
effort to setup/design/program, but worth it for the ability to correlate
events and monitor the performance of instruments over time.
My system monitors helium boiloff flow (we can add LN2 flow as well), line
pressures, building gas pressures, heat exchanger temperatures, vacuum pump
temperatures, and basically all environmental parameters (temp, humidity,
pressure, etc). All the data is saved to a database and viewed online
in real time on a dashboard. It has also been setup to send alerts via
slack if any problems arise (its definitely saved us a few times already
when equipment misbehaves!).

I would highly recommend a similar kind of setup that allows you to log data
long term. If nothing else, monitoring the helium/LN2 boiloff will at
least give some sense of the health of the magnets. Our sensors
are sensitive enough to see the small changes in boiloff when you measure
the helium level (you can notice the small periodic spikes in the data).

thread with more details on setup.
Wendy - if you think you're headed towards a quench, it may be helpful to
monitor the helium flow and whether its increasing over time. I'd
be happy to send you one of our old sensors that monitors helium boiloff if
you think its useful.
