If I had full dictatorial power, I'd be doing a lot of what Josh suggests.
Unfortunately, you know my situation.
The hills I'm dying on here are gloves and closed-toe shoes, which are the
two issues that actually have actually cropped up here.
- No gloves in the facility outside of the wet lab, unless you're cleaning
up a spill; in that case, you should be focused on the spill, not the computer.
- Closed-toe shoes everywhere inside the facility. I didn't think this would
be a fight, and yet...
I strongly second Josh's prohibition on outside lab coats.
We don't require routine use of safety glasses, and I don't think there's a
compelling need for them unless you're in proximity to a cryogen fill, doing
SSNMR probe spinning diagnostics outside the magnet, or cleaning up the
aforementioned spill.
That said, I don't see any issue with someone wearing their own safety glasses
in the NMR space, I'm just not going to require it.
Josh, if you see this I'd be interested in your separate thread on safety signage,
we're in the process of updating ours.
