Instrumentation Specialist

The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY is pleased to announce an opportunity
for an Instrumentation Specialist, responsible for the oversight,
operation/maintenance and instruction in the use of the Nuclear Magnetic
Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and other equipment used in the Department's
instructional and research activities.

The incumbent will provide training and assist researchers in advanced
NMR techniques, perform some research functions related to NMR, and be
involved in certain direct teaching responsibilities related to NMR.

Minimum qualifications include an earned Ph.D. (or foreign degree
equivalent) in Chemistry or related discipline with two (2) years of
experience in the operation and maintenance of NMR Spectrometers.
Candidates without a Ph.D. must have a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or
related discipline with a minimum of ten (10) years of experience that
includes some research. Experience with the use of a broad range of
analytical instruments is highly preferred.

Demonstrated knowledge of modern NMR techniques and the interpretation of
the results from them, as well as the ability to prepare and present
complex ideas in an instructional setting is highly desired. Knowledge of
chemical theory and laboratory practice associated with an advanced
degree is important, as is the ability to utilize equipment and solve
chemical problems. Qualified applicants will have good oral and written
communication skills and possess effective planning, organizing and time
management skills.
