I've been in discussions with our network folks here and they have some
interest in the possibility
of directly networking each of our 5 Varian instruments directly into
the corporation network and
using a routed instrument control rather then a point to point networked
instrument control.
Seems I'm by no means a network engineer and probably have the
terminology wrong, let me
attempt a poor diagram of what they are interested in:
(network backbone)
==========================
|
|
|---------(UNIX Host)
<--- Current Arrangement
|
|
|----------(Instrument Console)
vs.
(network backbone)
==========================
| |
| |
<--- "Desired" Arrangement
| |
(UNIX Host) (Instrument Console)
Is there any documentation concerning this type of implementation?
