As of December 31, 2005 I will be retiring from my post directing
NMR activities at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. The
search and qualifications for my replacement are described below.
I will only add that Amherst is also a very nice place to live
both personally and scientifically!

Applications are invited for the position of Director of the Nuclear
Magnetic Resonance Facility at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Major research and teaching instrumentation including five liquids and
solids spectrometers ranging in field from 300 to 600 MHz are presently
housed in this facility. Responsibilities for the ongoing operation of
this facility include supervising and training of researchers in the use
and applications of NMR spectroscopy, maintenance and upgrading of the
equipment, supervising the day-to-day operation of the facility, and, in
general, ensuring efficient service. The successful candidate will have
a Ph.D., preferably in the chemical sciences (Biochemistry, Chemistry,
Polymer Science or Materials Science), with demonstrated expertise in
NMR spectroscopy, and will have the opportunity to participate in
collaborative research projects. The appointment is a non-tenure track
research professor position in the Polymer Science and Engineering
Department, which houses a number of research professor - directed
shared experimental facilities. Salary is commensurate with
qualifications and experience. The anticipated starting date is January
1, 2006. Evaluation of applicants will begin on September 15 and

--creation science [sic] taught parallel to
evolution--- it is that the American people are
so ignorant of what science is (and therefore
what it is not) that they tolerate this absurdity
--- I suggest that evolution scoffers do not
deserve the fruits of real science --they should
should use only the results of creation science
for their medical well being!!
